“Attention whore” as ad hominem

strawman
One of the arguments we hear often in these parts of the Internet claims women who associate with alternative, unpopular countercultures participate only to draw attention to themselves. In the minds of some, recognising injustice and taking up arms against it exists solely in those of men. The scope of this post encompasses not the countless contrary examples throughout history but instead taking the assertion at face value.

Suspend reality for a moment. Let’s assume the premise as truth. Thus:

  • Women MRAs crave acceptance into the crowd with no regard to men’s rights;
  • Minorities associate with #GamerGate due to internalised racism or some form of Stockholm syndrome in exchange for e-fame;
  • Anti-feminists stand in solidarity against hembrism because of the notoriety it brings;
  • etc ad nauseam;

Believe all the points in the preceding list and ask, “What does it prove?” Do Karen Straughan’s arguments hold no weight if she froths and writhes from delicious, new comments on her YouTube videos? Can Lauren Southern’s validation addiction trump her views against feminism?

The answer:  Of course not. The aforementioned statements amount to nothing more than ad hominem. Such trite fails to address the presenters’ points while implying some character flaw, real or imagined, invalidates their logic. June Lapine provides additional examples of the attention whore character assassination attempts in her male_attention.mp4 video.

Ideological warfare now rages upon many fronts. Those fighting against intellectual fascism in whatever form must not be derailed by lazy, easy missives aimed at dividing said movements and overpowering them. Treat women joining you as allies until they speak or act against your goals.
